Marco and I were talking the other day. We're hoping that someday soon there will be a Fuji X-Pro II. We both like the rangefinder format. We both like the Fuji X100 series and it's a very popular camera. The optical viewfinder is one of the big reasons I like the X100T and I would like an X-Pro II but BUT but BUT… I am worried!
The Rangefinder Appeal
The X-Pro1 carved out a loyal following with its hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder and classic rangefinder styling. For those of us who love the X100T's shooting experience, the idea of an interchangeable-lens body with that same optical viewfinder magic is incredibly appealing. A Fuji X-Pro II built around that concept could be the perfect everyday carry for serious shooters.
The Megapixel Concern
Here's where the worry sets in. The industry keeps pushing megapixel counts higher, and there's chatter that a future X-Pro II might pack significantly more pixels onto its APS-C sensor. That sounds great on a spec sheet, but cramming more photosites onto the same sensor area can introduce noise, reduce dynamic range, and demand more from your lenses. On an APS-C sensor, there's a real tradeoff — and I'd rather see Fuji prioritize clean files and great low-light performance over a bigger number on the box.
"I don't need 24 or 28 megapixels on an APS-C sensor. I need great image quality, fast operation, and that wonderful optical viewfinder."
What I'd Want From an X-Pro II
Beyond the viewfinder, my wishlist is practical: fast autofocus that rivals the X-T1's phase-detect system, a tilting rear screen, dual card slots, and weather sealing. But the optical viewfinder is the heart of it. Without that rangefinder-style OVF, the X-Pro line loses its identity. Fuji got it right with the X100T — bring that same thinking to the X-Pro II and I'm sold.
For now, we wait. The X-Pro1 launched back in early 2012, and the rumor mill has been spinning for years. When Fuji finally shows its hand, I'll be watching closely — hopeful, but with a healthy dose of caution.

Totally agree on the megapixel thing. I'd take cleaner ISO 6400 over 24MP any day on APS-C. The X100T viewfinder is brilliant — if they can bring that to an ILC body, it's a winner.
I've been holding off on an X-T1 just waiting for the X-Pro II. The rangefinder form factor is what drew me to Fuji in the first place. Fingers crossed they don't mess it up with a 28MP sensor.
Weather sealing and dual slots would make this a no-brainer. The X-Pro1 still takes great photos but the AF is showing its age. Come on Fuji!
I'm with you Scott — the optical viewfinder is the whole point. If they drop it for a pure EVF, they might as well call it something else.
